Curaçao is the only island in this part of the Caribbean that has a true mountain hiking experience. Christoffelberg is a short but challenging hike with satisfying, 360-degree views from the top. I loved this hike and the views so much I spent a ton of time at the top taking it all in.
Mountain Christoffel
Located in Westpunt, 10 minutes drive from Villa Westpunt. Christoffelberg is the highest point of Curaçao and reaches a hight of 372 meters (1,220 ft).The hiking trail offers a spectacular hike with beautiful views and it takes about 1,5 hour, one way.
This mountain also marks the highest point in the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao), making this hike a true highlight of the Dutch Caribbean.
Christoffel Park is the largest park of Curaçao and a must see for everyone. The park has a rich variety of local flora and fauna with species that can not be found somewhere else on the island. Perfect for us nature lovers. There are 8 hiking trails, of which the Christoffel Mountain climb is the most adventurous one.
The park is open all days of the week from
6AM to 2PM. If you want to climb the Christoffelberg you should go early in the morning. Make sure you start the hike before 10AM. Due to the hot weather conditions it is not allowed to start the climb later. I prefer to hike at 6AM because I love the quiet surroundings and to be one with the mountain.
Challenging
Make sure you are well equipped with food, water, sunscreen and sturdy shoes because the trail starts pretty easy and slow, but gets more challenging halfway. Prepare yourself to climb some rocks the last few meters to get on the top. And remember, whatever the challenges, the spectaculair view of the island will be definitely worth it!
